About the Artist

My interest in art began early. My mother reported that I began saying that I would be an artist at age 6. I would draw pictures on my chalkboard, show her the results, erase, and draw again. Even now I remember that there was something magical in representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface. |

The one unifying theme, regardless of subject, is the sense of particular and specific light. In the oil painting "Sunrise Run, Upper Park" (above left) one can feel the impending arrival of Autumn in the soft tone of the light and the arrival of clouds from the north, not normally present during the hot, dry summer in northern California. In contrast, the pastel painting titled "Two Swimmers at 5-Mile" (below right) presents the harsh light and sharp contrasts of a summer afternoon. Even the background trees seem dry and hot, and offer little promise of relief from the summer heat. People commenting on my work most often mention the sense of light.
I began teaching oil painting and pastel painting classes in 1998, and have given demonstrations and critiques for artist organizations through out the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area. Currently I am developing a new workshop program. My paintings have received numerous awards from regional and National juried art exhibitions. In addition, my work has been featured in National art magazines, including The Artists Magazine August 2003 issue in Greg Schabers cover story article, "Secrets to Sparkling Water".
